Default Upgrading to intermittent wipers

I've got a '99 Civic EX sedan that has the standard three speed wipers (one-speed intermittent, low and high) but would like to upgrade it to have the variable speed intermittent wipers. Unfortunately this was not an option in any Civic that I have looked at in North America (including the Acura 1.6EL and Civic Si) through 2005. The problem with adapting anything after '05 is that they become speed sensitive and the wiring more complicated. I know little about wiring and prefer to keep this "simple" if I can.

My next option is to hijack the necessary items (wiper stem, maybe more wiring inside the steering column?) from a '98-'02 Accord. I have no clue if it's been done or if this would work. Anyone have any experience with this obscure part of Hondas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Clark

My 2000 Prelude has variable speed intermittent wipers, maybe get a Prelude one? I have considered this myself for my 2000 Civic EX.

The steering wheel in the 96-00 Civic, 98-02 Accord, and the 97-01 Preludes look about the same size/shape.

part# for 2000 Prelude
35256-SV7-A01 SWITCH ASSY., WIPER $68.27

part# for a 2000 2dr Accord EX
35256-S84-A01 SWITCH ASSY., WIPER $66.54

and for reference
part# for a '99 2DR Civic EX (like what you have now)
35256-SR3-G21 SWITCH ASSY., WIPER (H) $64.42

A word of advice -
Since you have to remove the airbag, wait AT LEAST 15 MINUTES after disconnecting the battery before beginning to remove it.
