Upgrading My System
Hi, I am new to car audio and i have a 2001 Honda Civic EX Coupe....I would like to get a new head unit (Panasonic CQ-C7301U) [http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...oductID=14897]
and new front and rear speakers (Alpine Type-R SPR-17LP) [http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GE4zSvQ...00SPR17LP#Tab]
I have two questions....will the head unit power these speakers or do i need an amp also? and will the head unit be hard to install? will it even fit?

nice choice of radio! it will power the speakers but at the same time you dont want to underpower the speakers. they have a peak power of 250 watts and a rms of 50w. the radio's rms is about 20 watts. do the math! to get the optimum sound get a 4-channel amp. and a separate amp if you want to add a sub.

if these are as deep & wide as my spr-17LS alpine front speakers, they probably wont fit in your doors without some cutting. i dont know though, the newer model cars speaker holes might be bigger.

You don't necessarily have to get an amp for them but if you're sinking that much money into getting thse speakers and deck, it'd make no sense not to go all out and get an amp. Running off of the deck, you'll never come anywhere near hearing the full potential of those speakers. And about the deck, you'll need a dash kit and wiring harness availible just about anywhere (Best buy, Cuircit city, car toys, etc...) It's pretty simple if you follow the instructions included with the kit. Also, for cosmetic's sake, I'd use the trim ring from the kit if it includes one. They always look a lot cleaner.
