Default Used Car Buyer

Hello, new to the Honda site as I usally post on Tundra Solutions. Anyway, planing on purchasing a used Civic for my son to replace his Explorer which uses to much gas[:@]. My question is " What sort of things should I look at when checking out a car for purchase ?" How do I check the CV joints for how good they might or might not be ? Thanx for any clues or hints you can throw my way.

do the obvious stuff first, including a carfax check, visual engine inspection, check the suspension bob and look for rust near the rear wheel wells.

if you're new to hondas, you might want to pay a honda technician $20 or so to inspect the car along with you. he should know if the cv joints, or just about anything else, will cause you any problems down the road.

There's a website, www.carsurvey.org, that has information on maintenance histories from owners of just about any car out there. It's better than Consumer Reports for what to look for on a used auto.
