Default Valve cover and pcv valve

I just picked up a 95 civic dx and noticed a few things wrong with it. The pcv hose is in a collapsed position with engine off like if you take a garden hose and crimp it. When i increase rpm, you can see thehose inflate again. My question is, is this simply due to old age of the hose and pcv valve or something else?

Also, the valve cover is leaking. I know how to change it but i was wondering if i can get away with using an rtv sealantmade for valve covers that i have.I have never repaired a honda valve cover gasket leak before. Any one ever done this or heard about it?

Default RE: Valve cover and pcv valve

both are cheap easy fixes. Get a new PCV and hose, as well as a Valve Cover gasket and some Hondabond. Its quick and easy to replace, so do it right.
