vtec conversion or engineswap????
ok so have recently bought a honda not a civic but ne ways have a b18a1 am looking for a lil more power have found a list to convert it to vtec
-Ls/vtec kit (should come with sandwich plate, tap, 1/8 NPT plug, oil line, dowell pins)
-Vtec head (B16/ITR or GSR)
-Headgasket
-OBD0 to OBD1 ECU jumper harness (optional, but recommended if you want to tune)
-ECU (PW0 or PR3 if your staying OBD0, chipped P28, P30, P61, or P72 if OBD1)
-98-01 B series oil pump (optional but highly recommended)
-Water pump (optional)
-Timing belt (optional)
-Headstuds (optional, but good to have specially if your boosting) but looking into it and cant find any of the parts i need locally is it cheaper and easier to just stick a k series or h22 in it and are there any real hurdles to overcome with a engine swap like wiring harnesses and other suck things like mountings and what not

You need to tune with that motor set-up, so the conversion harness and ECU and probably tuning would be necessary.
Go to honda/acura for the pumps and belts. Just my suggestions. I think a HG should come with the vtec conversion kit. ECU can be found on eBay, or Phearable.net - Electronic Fuel Injection Tuning Solutions - Hondata, Neptune, Crome, Uberdata, Ectune, AEM, Honda Tuning, Widebands, Fuel Pumps, Intercoolers, Turbos, LS/VTEC, ECU Chipping, Chipped Ecus, P28
Head studs are a good idea, in addition to ARP rod bolts, too.

Well, it would technically be easier to just do a head swap as opposed to a complete motor swap. The ls/vtec motor you are describing will get you about 170whp/140ish wtq from what I have seen. I have no idea how much this would be costing you.
I would imagine a full GSR swap would be about $2.5k, and you would get the reliability from Honda and see about 160whp/135wtq. You could also go H22 ( ), and see about 175whp/155wtq. These are all stock motors of course. With a basic tune, a 2.5" short ram intake, 2.3" exhaust, and a nice exhaust manifold, and minor tuning, my h22 made 195whp/165wtq.
Figure out what your power goal are first, then see the possibilities on how to get to the power and then pick which way you want to get there depending on price, or what you want to do in general.
