Default Water in Trunk sometimes?

Okay - I park my 1996 honda civic ex sedan on our driveway nose up (driveway is hill). we get dumped on from hurricane ike and I look in the trunk by the spare tire all is dry I think okay the water I saw in there a couple of weeks ago was probably from a cooler I had in there that spilled.

so it is like a a day and a half later I park on our drive but I back in. open the trunk and guess what - got water by the spare - no where else just by the spare.

I look and there are two streams coming from the rear of the car where the spare tire is located and when I open the trunk lid I had water everywhere by the license plate it was like splashing around.

anybody have any guess as to where the water is coming from - searched around and the only thing that I can think of is something is getting filled with water and then the level of the car changes the water comes out. I am guessing the taillights that are on the trunk lid. I took the trunk lining out and had my daughter stand there with a hose on the trunk and no water. nothing - it was dry as a bone.

so something has to be storing water while the nose is up but then when I back in with the nose down the water comes out of wherever it is. I have a feeling the taillights on the trunk lid are storing water.

anybody have any similar problems? gutters from the sunroof all look good and no stains on the headliner so I am pretty sure it isn't the sunroof drains.

I have the trunk liner out and waiting for the next rain - but anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking of taking one of the taillights out of the trunk lid and dumping it in a pale of water and seeing if it would fill up.

thanks in advance for any advice and I think this forum is great!
