Default This is a weird one, Timing question

Im trying to set the timing, and I honestly cannot find the marks to set the timing right.. I know where they should be but they are not visible, I tried cleaning the pulley brushing some rust off and nothing, the car is a 91 civic 1.6L, is this even possible? Or am I not looking hard enough

you cant find the marks on the crank pulley or the stationary marks on the timing cover?

Unless someone has replaced the crank pulley with a non-OEM pulley, you should see three clustered marks (the middle red one is the one to align with the pointer) and a single lone white mark that indicates TDC.

their is a timming light that you can buy....you shine it on the pullys and it shows the marks very well but if you cant see them try and look for the indents

I can find the pointers alright, I just cant find the indents or anything to show that there ever was indents there, I spent a while looking for them with a timing light all hooked up properly ive done it many times on other cars, I have the haynes book so it told me where to look so I know that

What engine block do you have?

Post some photos of the area.

I'm not real familiar with ZC engines but it does seem like an aftermarket pulley. I would try to get your hands on a new pulley so you can set the timing correctly.

If I take it to a shop can they time it without using a timing light? Like putting the car on a scope or something?
