can someon explain me the difference between the block of an engine and the head of the engine? i know what the head consists of (cylinders,valves,rods,pistons). but i am unsure what parts make up the engine block can someone please tell me thanks in advance

not quite right;
head is the rocker arms and valve train and spark plugs and valves and camshaft.
block has the cylinders with pistons (with rings), crankshaft (with bearings), flywheel

add on the connecting rods that connect the pistons to the crankshaft (in the block)

so how does a vtec head swap help the situation and create more hp

vtec controls the lift duration of the valves in the head when it reaches a certain rpm, when it does increase the duration, the cylinders are pumped with more air and more fuel to compensate, thus creating more horsepower.

i know how vtec works, i learned a few weeks ago, i was just curious besides the vtec kicking in at high rpms, what else does the head do when combined with the block to create more hp and torque
