Mostly any ASE cert'd guide starts off by saying disconnect the battery, on my old C10 the Chilton's 1st step to changing the fan belt was disconnect the battery, if at anytime you're using a wrench around the battery i.e. changing to cold air by the battery on the firewall and theres a chance you could turn the wrench to a degree where you connect anywhere near the negative terminal to cover their own *** against a law suit theyll say that in the event of you grounding your wrench on the terminal or connector and frying yourself and trying to take them to court for your own stupidity.
Or the same thing where you ground out a positive lead off of the intake, it depends.

I also noticed that when i took my intake off to access my throttle body that when i put it back on i seemed to bump something and my check engine light came on, that was with the battery connected. Maybe for that purpose? Now i always disconnect it so i wont have to afterwards ha.
