Default Where is my coolant temp sensor

OK, I have been reading most of the night, but just can't seem to find my answer. My temp gauge, jumps from hot to cold to normal(about 1/3way up). In looking for the temp sensor, the Previous owner did a very poor job of wiring.
I see on the trany side of the block I have what looks like 3 sensors. Ones has a single wire just under the Dizzy. There is one 2 wire connector next to that towards the front of the motor, and then one 2 wire connector to the tranny. I was assuming the single wire was the temp sensor, but it looks alittle difficult to get to with out taking the dizzy off. I was assuming the 2 wire connectors goes to the fan relay, and I was not sure what the 2 wire connect on the trany was for. But after reading tonight, the single wire could be the oil pressure sensor. I had thought I tested this 1 wire sensor, by putting it to ground and the temp gauge did spike all the way to hot.
Am I on the right track, is the single wire the temp sensor, and the 2 wire connector the fan relay??
Oh, it is a 1988 civic DX...with a D15B motor. I was told it was a swap...I will try and take some pictures today if that would help..

The ECT switch is on the Tstat cover. The sending unit and sensor should be in that general area as well.

Sorry for the novic questions but what does ECT switch stand for?? I am assuming you are refering to the fan switch but what does ECT mean??

I quess one why to narrow it down....will the temp sensor have one wire or two wires???? I figured the fan switch will have 2 wires. Also, where would the oil pressure sensor be located??? On that same side of the block??
