Default will my header fit?

I have a 2002 civic dx coupe, I ordered a 4-1 header for it. My buddy told me I can't just replace it for my exhaust manifold because I need to modify my catylitic converter. Is he right?

Yes, the stock manifold has an integral converter. You'd need to change to a converter under the car after the header. This will also require modifying the B pipe or using an EX type cat-back system.

So would I need to buy another converter and cut out a place for it, then weld it on? Or can I buy a ex catback exhaust? Will the ex catback fit with no mods? Can you give me a detailed way of doing it please. I would highly appreciate it.

Before you post, please review all stickies and please use the search feature. This is an extremely common question.

I did search, I always search. That post refers to civics from 96-2000. Right? Are all civics the same? Mine is a 2002

Also, I know I need to get the ex header, but can I get a dx header and bolt it on to the ex cat and then bolt the cat to a ex cat back?

The 2001-2005 is more complicated because their stock EX cat comes integral with the pipe that goes under the engine and turns up to meet the stock EX manifold (which has 4 pipes into one like a header, but it is short). The older EX cat is just a converter with flanges on both ends. Without seeing what header you bought it's hard to say what it will fit to. Unless you're buying random parts off of ebay (not recommended), the seller should know what else you need to put together the whole system.
