Civic SI - CRX SI 16 Valve D16A6

88-91

525.00- Short Block
1,295.00 - Long Block

Okay, I'm shopping for a new engine and there seems to be a snag. What the hell is the difference between a long block and a short block? I've heard of big and small blocks in domestic cars, but I dunno wtf these guys are talking about!

Please, someone help me shop for an engine, I don't want to get the wrong one! :O(

P.S. --- What can I expect to see when I actually purchase an engine? Will it come with everything that's already in my car? Block/head/valvecover/distributor etc.. ??

do you have water in the oil ??
and you have replaced the head gasket ??
if possible, i would rebuild the one in there.
you do not have to remove it to do it.
i did mine - did the head work but you could take that to a head shop
or they are sold as rebuilt - i found a place in fort worth where they were about 260 (if i recall correctly).
my total rebuild was about 100.
but i did not do the bearings - just short on cash
(or is the block cracked ??)

Nope, no water in the oil. I have oil in the water. I can see it floating in my radiator and my reservoir is full of oily goo.

would have oil in coolant when you replace the head gasket (that's a maybe); but how do you get a cracked block unless it freezes with no antifreeze ??

This is from the JER website. http://www.jer-us.com/

A remanufactured long block is the engine block with cylinder head(s) and (most often) timing components installed. Usually, (always with JER) a new or remanufactured oil pump and full installation gasket set are also sold as part of a long block. A remanufactured short block is just the engine block with machined internal components. No cylinder heads or timing components are sold with short blocks. To offer the best possible quality and long-term durability, JER sells only long blocks. All photos shown on this site are actual JER long blocks.

They have a decent selection to check out.
