ya with a friends civic that broke i had to drill it out completly and then just use a nut on the back side of the cap with a longer bolt. it worked just fine.
just a PITA... the bolt is harder than the case so it will most likely pop off and drill thru the case, so try your best to keep it straight but it will probably go off. mine was off about half way so i had to woddle the hole larger to get a bolt to go thru both pieces.

 

thats what ill prolly end up doing, i dont know how to do stuff like that so ill just buy the parts and let my friend do it all lol
