Default ZC tech

Whats up guys. Im fairly new to the tuner world, lol. I recently had my 94 swaped from its d16z6 to a Sohc ZC and now i want to get it up and running faster. I already changed out all the Ignition components and I just added a CAI with an AEM fuel rail. Some freinds of mine said if I add a chip or change out the program of the ECU/ECM I would see better gains on the dyno. I have an AT, so therfore cant really get much gains, or I dont think. I know how to add bolt ons, but I need help finding a progroam or a PAP module. I searched google but it seems to confusing to me. Such as P28, P27? I really dont know what that it. So could anyone help out- Thanks!

P28 is a ECU that you chip, probably what your friends were talking about. Since you have an auto you can't run a chipped ecu. The AEM fuel rail was kind of unnessisary. Either doan auto to manual swap or just get intake/header/exhaust then maybe a small shot of nitrous and thats basially what your limited to with an auto.

i thought the zc was a dohc engine from japan? used in the si's. it is the only dohc d series... and if you ask me buying a fuel rail is pretty pointless since the stock on is good up to like 1000 hp haha, but anyway they do look good. yeah get that thing turbo'ed running with hondata s200, a few internal changes, and you will be running with the big guys,

i still compete against my brother on his bike (he is 11) he still beats me most of the time.

actually ZC's are fun little engines to build low boost turbo setups on stock. the stock motor will handle 8 to 10 pretty easily. we have done a few of them up here with great results. i know that you can find some good internals for the zc then you could run higher boost. i also know that for some reason the compression ratio's on the zc are acutally relatively low to start out with. also a good reason to turbo it. dont let the fact that you have an auto slow you down. crap...i actually found an aftermarket tourque converter for a zc the other day. i think zex made it. oh, and dont worry about the vtec controller....your engine dosnt have vtec anyways. its pretty much a d16 dohc non-vtec.

Dunno why you swapped the Z6 for the ZC, it's the same engine... but whatever.

My suggestion, I/H/E maybe a splash of nitrous (small shot, 35ish?) and that's it. Since the ECU controls automatic shifting you can't change it out or chip it. Plus, at the point that you are at, you won't be seeing a large gain if any anyway without spending a ton of money.

2 things.

1) Yes, absolutely do let the fact that he has an auto slow him down. Just because you can get a stronger torque converter doesn't mean the clutch packs can hold the power. Not to mention we've already covered the fact that he has no available way to tune the engine except for the hack version.

2) He has an SOHC ZC, which is basically the same thing as a Z6. There are small completely unnoticable differences, mostly that the Z6 has a better oil pump. Yes, it is VTEC, and the DOHC ZC is also VTEC. However I agree with not using a VTEC controller, Honda does not intend for you to be changing the VTEC engagement points because you do not need to. The low cam reaches peak VE at around 3500-4000rpms, depending on the car and mods done. High cam peaks much later, around 6000-6500 on a stock cam. Switchover coming at 5200 as it is set stock is pretty much the perfect place to preserve power through a continuous and straight curve. In other words, unless you have some serious mods done, you do not need to change VTEC engagement at all.

I swapped out my Z6 cause the engine had like about 215K miles on it and it finally gave out, I slung a rod through the oil pan. I plan on rebuilding that engine. But down here its hard to find a Manual Civic for a reasonable price.

Annnnnd that would be a good reason.
