Default 1988 Civic Hatch...what transplant?

Hey everyone, I'm a new member here(obviously). I just picked up an automatic '88 hatch for my 500-mile-per-week commute to work. The guy I got it from said it had an engine swap done a few years ago, but he didn't know what was put in there(it was his friend's car before it was his). Can you guys tell anything from these pics?

A couple shots of the car itself...

well for a motor swap info it would help to see the stamped code on the motor block and what model civic that is as well.
tho to some people a motor swap can be as simple as a lower milage motor.

The guy said that he thinks it was a swap from a late 90's civic...I'll check the block sometime tomorrow.

Not bad for $1500...just needs a little brake work, and some engine ticks that need to go away. Thankfully a friend of mine is a mechanic that has 5 crx's he's continuously works on.

That looks like the motor that belongs in there.

Its probably exact same engine form a newer models. Maybe 90-91 engine.
