98 civic with body issues
Hey all, the last couple of weeks I have been purusing you forum and its a really professional place.
Thats said this past year I have inherited my mothers 98 civic sedan... its in pretty good shape yet there are some things some issues that i need advice on.
The only mod so for is an AEM SRI it does sound meaner!
anyway i was wonder what i could do to stop this peeling short of getting it professionally painted. This started to happen after my mother got rear-ended and i guess
sombody messed up at the body shop. Is there anything i can do? its peeling all the way across the bumper... i was thinking rustoleum as my car is black and it might be easy to match? But i wasnt too sure as it is a plastic bumper.
The other asthetic thing that I am looking into fixing is some sort of checking thats is happening. I am almost certin that its only in the clear coat as I can not feel the cracks with my figurenail.
Any suggestions are always helpful and thanks for an awesome civic hangout

Welcome to HCF! With chips that big on the bumper, you'd be much better off just getting it repainted. If you look around you may be able to find a decent body shop to shoot it for $200 or a little less. You may try this out is if you're hard up for cash. $50 Paint job Check about 10 posts down. I haven't tried it but some have said they've had success with it.
The checking you described can only be fixed with a sand to bare metal and repaint. If you can't feel the crack with your nail, then it is your base coat failing, not your clear coat. If you just paint over it, the lines will come to the surface again. This seems to be a fairly common problem on Honda paint as I've heard many complain about it... myself being one of them.
Best of luck to you, I know how paint problems can be such an eyesore...
