What does that mean? How do you double clutch? Is that powershifting?

Default RE: Double Clutching?

The purpose of the double clutch is to match the speed of the rotating parts of the gearbox for the gear you wish to select to the speed of the input shaft being driven by the engine. Once the speeds are matched, the gear will engage smoothly. If the speeds are not matched, the dog teeth on the collar will "crash" or grate as they attempt to fit into the holes on the desired gear. A modern synchromesh gearbox accomplishes this synchronization automatically.

When shifting up on a double-clutched vehicle, the clutch pedal is pressed, the throttle is released, and gearbox shifted into neutral. The clutch pedal is then released. As the engine idles with no load, the rpms will decrease until they are at a level suitable for shifting into the next gear. The driver then depresses the clutch again and shifts into the next gear. The whole maneuver can, with practice, take no more than a fraction of a second, and the result is a very smooth gear change.

very very very hard to do well...

took a lot of practice to even get the hang of it, and if you don't drive a manual regularly, very easy to lose practice

you push the clutch in, release the gas, and pull shifter to neutral.

let off the clutch

press the clutch down, put shifter into next gear

let off clutch and give some gas.

Most modern cars, are equipped with devices called synchronizers that help to synchronize the speed of the gearbox with that of the engine. This effectively eliminates the need for double clutching. Some large trucks on the other hand have so many gears that synchronizers are inefficient, while race cars can squeeze out more power without them, making double clutching a fact of life.

1. clutch in gear in nutral
2. clutch out for a milli second
3. clutch in car in gear
4. makes car go.

Learn heel-toe it would be way more benficial.

Hey moogly, you ever shift down and get that jerky thing happening? Well thats why you DC as well. It makes it a smooth downshift.

1 Clutch in, shift to N, clutch out

2 Blip the gas

3 Clutch in, and shift to lower gear

4 Clutch out and enjoy.

helps if you know exactly where your clutch engages and disengages so you don't let out pedal all that much
