Default Hi fr SF

Hi everyone,

I'm a proud owner of a 2006 Civic with just 17k miles on it. I have been very happy with the car so far and I'm looking forward to sharing with and gleaning information from all the knowledgeable folks out here.

In any case, I hope to share my experience with the Civic with you, and hopefully this can be helpful.

Recently, a buzz noise (especially when first started in the morning) appeared, which gets louderas you turn or accelerate. Once the car warmed up, the noise will slowly dissapear.

Anyways, the cause of the buzz noise is resulted from low power steering fluid. Thiswas visually confirmed and was filled up and buzz noise went away.

But I have no idea as to how power steering fluid can be consumed or just evaporate. I did a check and, so did the local Honda dealer service - there was no leak. I requested for a change of the rack and pinion but Honda required evidence of defect, and since no evidence of defect can be found - no replacement.

Well, it has been 3 months now and the noise is back. I took it to the dealership and they found that power steering fluid is again very low, so low that only air is going to the power steering pump/motor and that the power steering pump/motor is damaged since there was almost no fluid.

No leak can be seen.....until they inspected the rack and pinion. It seems that the power steering fluid went into one of the rack and pinion compartment, so leak was not visible outside until a small hole wasdrilled into the compartment - then all the fluid poured out like rain.

As it is a defect, Hondawill replace the part under warranty, but I thought I should share this with everyone.

Thank you.
