ok i have a d16y7 block but da valve cover thats on my car is the valve cover that goes on that vtec motor d16y8 so im wonderingcan the d16y8 valve cover go on the d16y7 or do u have to change the head beacause the guy i bought this car from tol me it was vtec and from my understanding the d16y7 is not vtec but yet i see the valve cover of the vtec one so did he switch the head? or did all he do was change the valve cover? this is a 96 motor keep in mind

 

Easy, just check for the VTEC solenoid. It sits just behind the distributor on the left side of the valve cover (when standing in front of the car).If it has it, its a vtec, if not, no vtec.
