Default New to civics

Hey, how is everyone doing? Well I'm Cody. Just got my first Civic. Its a 95 Honda Civic DX, and what I was told a VTec.. I have always wanted one and just saw this one for sale so I jumped on it. Its a fixer upper but I think I'm up for it. About to replace the head gasket today and tomorrow. This should be fun. Well I will be seeing you all around. Looking forward to talking to you.lol

Looks like a nice starting point.

What is the code on the engine? Should be a D16xx. Just asking since the DX models did not come with vtec motors from the factory. Can you see a vtec solenoid on the upper left corner of the head?

Loos the wheels and get some paint and that thing will look good!

I need to look, like I said I have no idea about these cars. What I do know is with some TLC and a little money these things are fast and they look amazing when done right. Yeah I hate those wheels, they are going as soon as I get the head gasket and the over heating problem fixed.. Then a paint job is going on with a body kit..But wheels first lol.. Thanks for the post, I'm going to check the code and head now. Ill let u know

the engine code D16Y7. Is that non-VTec or VTec?

Can you see a vtec solenoid on the head? Google it to see what it looks like exactly. The d16y7 block is not a vtec block. But a head swap could have been done to make it vtec.

Define "little money to make it fast"

Well, I looked and it does in fact have the vtec solenoid. Yeah I'm assuming that the head was wrapped. Which means I need to get a new gasket for it. Yeah I was being polite when I said "little". lol I know I'm about to dump some money into this car, but I'm looking forward to it. I really don't have anything else to spend my money on.

So, then what are the plans for the car? Motor swap, or are you planning on just replacing the HG and head?

I'm going to go with a motor swap. Now the question is which motor to get? Any ideas?

How much is in your budget? Or I should ask, how much do you want to spend on this car?

Do you have a power goal in mind? Determining end result goals now will prevent you from doing work twice and paying twice. However, the more work you do to a car, the more you will understand how everything works.

I made the dumb mistake of "building" a D series without boost. Then, I went to boost (Jackson racing supercharger), and it still wasn't enough. Then I swapped to a H22 and wish I went B series and just boosted with a turbo after having the H22 for about 6 months. On the flip side, I learned ALOT about Civics (and cars generally) over the years that is providing to be beneficial
