New from MD
Hey, my name is Adam. I'm from the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I joined this forum because I'm thinking about getting a civic as a daily driver. Right now I have an '89 Dodge Power Ram W100, I'm getting around 12.5mpg. I recently broke my foot in three places, putting me out of work for about a month. It will be longer if the MRI shows anything worse. I also got an inspection ticket and a citation for my truck the other day because it is very loud. I'm a country boy an that's what we do to our trucks around here. I have a $60 ticket plus the cost of repairs to deal with and my truck is a gas hog. I have very little money left, so I just need a more economical car when I get back on my feet, literally. The car I'm hoping to get is going to have very few mods, just ones to improve fuel mileage and my truck is going to be tagged as historic and turned into a mud truck. I have very little knowledge of imports, so I decided to join this forum. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum. I am also from Maryland but the western shore. I'm in Glen Burnie just outside south Baltimore.
You'll love the mpg you get from the civic and hang around here and you can find answers to almost every question you might have.

I pretty much know nothing about imports, barely anything about cars. I know 4wd, V8s, and Diesels. But I know I can have fun with a civic, my car buddies tell me that's what sets me apart from the people I hang out with, I like everything. I like american, euros, asians, trucks, cars, bikes, anything you can tune and mod. I'm hoping to learn a lot because I'm going to be depending a lot on this little 4 banger.

there are plenty of cars available getting great mileage.
not to take from the civic crowd, but you may also look into:
toyota corolla (30+mpg)
chevy cavalier/pontiac sunfire (27-38mpg) - very very cheap for a newer car
older BMWs (3 series getting about 22-25mpg)
RSX's (30-35mpg)- almost a civic but with a few "extras"
the civic is a great choice also, but if your looking for cheap cheap cheap cars, keep the cavalier in mind also. newer models such as 2000-2002 are selling for 1500-3000$ which is great. plus some parts are cheaper than even older civics. my brothers 95 civic ignition components are going to be about 300$ to replace. whereas my 2000 cavalier, can be completely replaced for about 185$. seeing as your also looking to tune and mod possibly, both the civic and the cavalier are great platforms for modding. civic is a little bit easier to mod, but the cavaliers with the 3400v6 swaps and 3800turbo v6 swaps are getting more popular and easier to do.

I was looking at some other cars, civic is strong in the running but there is a possibility that I could buy something else. My auto teacher and a lot of my friends have Hondas, so I could get help from them with the car too. If money wasn't such a big issue I would be buying a diesel pick up, some are easily getting at least 20mpg. But I need something cheap.

that is exactly why my brother picked up his civic. great running little buggers, cant kill them if you want to. well if you try to im sure ya could :-p
i got my car for a steal which is why i went with it. hopefully ill be upgrading to a new car over the summer. May Even be a HONDA. - checking out the 03-04 accord coupes. driven a few of the 6 speeds and loved every single one. plus some supercharged tuner versions are dropping 300hp at the wheels easy.
good luck with the civic. dont rule out accords either.

Haha, I just can't get used to 300hp being big power. My usual big power is 800-900hp and over 1000ft/lbs torque. I mean my truck barely breaks the 150hp mark because it's older, but she still picks up.
