new member 96 honda civic
Hey everyone, im a new member to the site but i have lurked for the past week or so before i bought my used 96 honda. Its a 1996 honda civic coupe, with a 5 speed of course, its gun metal grey in color but was silver before if you look in the door sills. Its not a bad car but its got its share of problems, they took off the power steering thinking it would make more power, and now the rack and pinion is probably no good, it needs ac recharged, needs some body work and maybe motor mounts. But its got some goodies, its got DC sport 4-2-1 headers, an apexi world performer cat back exhaust, carbon fiber hood, jvc deck, tinted windows, body kit with mercedez benz headlights and a short shifter.
My current problem with it is the exhaust, well more so the intake. It gets up and goes alright but i mean its got an exhaust system to get rid of the exhaust quick and more of it but it isnt getting enough air, it has the stock intake. And the people before didnt say they swapped the motor but i think they did. Its supposed to be a vtec, at least thats what im told since its an ex. But the motor doesnt just out and say VTEC, so is there any way of telling?
Here are some pics.
Thanks, Eric.

RE: new member 96 honda civic
Looks nice. The 96-00 civic VTEC engines don't say VTEC on them. The engine code should be D16Y8, which can be found on the block directly, below the head, on the left side. The valve covers only say "HONDA" on 'em.
Congrats on the new car!

shes a vtec alright. unless my eyes in the dark fooled me. But when i say its not getting enough air i mean that its got a free flowing exhaust side but a plugged up intake (stock) and well from about 3k- almost 5k it falls right on its face it goes from nice acceleration to sounding like itll die and then it picks up again.
Thanks guys, Eric.
