Vtec?

I have a stock 00 manual civic ex, my buddies say that i should be able to feel the vtec kick in, at a certain rpm.

what is that rpm and why dont i notice it?

in my 96 EX, which i think that has the same engine as yours (D16Y8) VTEC kicks in at 5250-5500 RPMs, when it kicks in, the engine starts making a high pitched noise
