Default 14b to 16g swap

I plan on doing the swap myself because I don't think it looks to complicated. I am also changing the exhaust/turbo manifold and I have new gaskets, how important is it to have a torque wrench here? If I don't have a torque wrench should it be done professionally?
Is the first thing to do is disconnect the oil line and the other line that goes to it? Should I let the oil drain out when I disconnectit and do I just fill up the engine oil after? Could anyone give me some advice if they have installed or swapped a turbo like this before? Thanks

Come on man. Have you ever done anything on your car before? Its not too complicated just think things through before you do them and use common sense, its a pretty straight foreward project. Btw you really dont need a torque wrench just make sure things are bolted down pretty tight.

I've done some minor stuff, installed an intake, replaced a control arm, fixed a piping coupler, just small ****. I would love to work on my car myself, i'm just scared ill **** something up and have to pay even more to get it fixed. Any tips or advice on swapping a turbo? Someone told me you should prime the new turbo, whats this mean? Also how important is it to replace the oil lines to the turbo? My old ones still seem fine but I read you should always change them?

Well you have to mess things up if you ever want to learn to do it right. Everybody has to start somewhere you just cant be afraid or you'll never learn. Yes you should prime a NEW turbo if its never had oil in it. Just goggle turbo priming and you'll get all kinds of good info on it.

Also, if you havent had any problems with your old oil lines they'll be just fine. Just dive into the project man. Its really not that tough and your feel great about it after your done.

Thanks alot, that thread with all the pictures really helped. Now I can save some money installing the new turbo and exhaust manifold and fuel pump myself.

I tried to do the install earlier today but some problems came up. The biggest problem is that my newturbo manifold sticks out further than the HF manifold I have now. My current setup with the 14b turbo has an adaptor plate welded on the turbo so it will fit the HF manifold. So my new 16g EVO III turbo will not fit the HF manifold, and my new manifold sticks out further. So I am told I need someone to extend the downpipe and possibly the charge piping aswell. The performance shop I brought it to also showed me that my downpipe has a crack and they didn't really seem veryinterested and said it could be a 2-day project! He reccomended bringing it to an exhaust shop to get my downpipe extended and get the crack fixed. I put it back together with my old manifold and turbo.
Does anyone have a good idea where I could get this done and should I try an exhaust shop? Only downside is I think I would need to tow itthere because they would probably need my old turbo/manifold off, so they can put the new manifold/turbo which I will have bolted together so theycan put it up to the engine and see how much the downpipe needs to be extended?
Any advice will be very appreciated.

im sorry to say but it seems your way in over your head with a small little project like this. You should know more bout what the hell your doing.I guess your one the just buys a turbo car just because its turbo. I have a friend that did the same thing and still knows nothing bout his car.For whats going on with your exhaust have someone weld the crack up. Put the turbo on and see what needs to be done take a thing call measurements if you know how much you need to add to it have them cut add some in and reweld it but in your case with your knowledge i would tell you to take it to the performace shop 2 days is what it takes oh well you know its done right.
