boost my stock d15?
Sure, the B16 can be boosted, but it's high CR and low displacement mean you can't run more than about 6 psi. You can run more than that on a stock 4G D15 (not that it's important), so it's really up to you. If you really want to go boost for not too much overhead, I'd say go with an LS motor (which will only cost you 1/2 to 2/3 as much as a B16) and boost that.
it all depends on the money and time you put into it. if you boost the D15 you'll be looking at maybe 160hp...depending on the tuning and the turbine. if you swap for a B16 or B18 you'll be looking at maybe 230-260ish boosted...again depending on the tuning and turbine. as for MPG..if its not done right it will kill it....but after you get a good, professional tune it can actually increce your gas milage.
The reason D's are less than ideal for boosting compared to B's is their short conrods. When the extra force of FI is acting on the crank and rods, they are exerting much more lateral pressure on the cylinder walls than longer B-rods. When too much boost is applied, it causes dangerous amounts of cylinder wear and often leads to nice big holes. Therefore, significantly more internal work is required on a boosted D to get it to the same power levels as a boosted B (when you're running about 10+ psi) and run reliably for a long time. That's not to say you can't run 6-7 psi all day, all year on a D though. Just don't try and run it like a 4G63...
