Default can i boost?

I have a 98 dx, other than a sri the engine is a stock 1.6. Is there a turbo kit that I can use that will work on a stock engine or am i just asking for a destroyed engine? Im not trying to kill every mustang i see, just want a little more pep in it when i push the fun pedal.

well, first thing i would do is swap out the y7 mani with a y8. Yes you can turbo your civic with a stock engine permitting that your engine is in good condition and you have kept up on your maintance. You can safely hit 180-200hp on stock internals.

Yup Y8 can make some good power even later. I have seen some mildly built Y8 motors make like 375-400whp ranges there good dependable motors and if you dont go over 10psi you should be good for a DD.

Before you boost, test the compression of your cylinders. If the compression test comes out good, you're safe to boost. If you're not entirely familiar with turbo systems, I'd recommend doing some research on how all the systems (turbos, wastegates, BOVs, etc) function and why they do what they do before you jump headfirst into a turbo build.

And I hate this "run x psi for a good dd" crap. 10 psi in a Mitsubishi 14b and 10psi in a Garrett T76 are two entirely different things, so why bother trying to use boost pressure as an example? 200-250whp should make for a fun, but still perfectly streetable DD civic.
