Default D16Y8 turbo vs. B16a2 n/a

aright, over this summer i should be pulling in over $3500 cash for working. i'm stuck between turboing the d16 or swapping in a b16a2. my block right now has 125k on so i'm wondering if it will hold up to the abuse, i'll probably be sticking in new pistons if i boost it. or, i could swap in a b16a2 which would have much more potential. and i would probably have a little money left over to do some fuel work or something. what do you think. i would think it would be easier to get power out of the b16, but i would love to have a turbo'd car

If I were in your shoes then I'd go with the b16 swap. You will have a few bucks left over for some nice bilt ons. The motor will have less wear on it, the b16 has tons of product support, and is a stronger motor with a hell of alot more potential.

yea, i suppose. also i'd like to take the car to college in a year so it would be good to have an engine with less wear. i can also always turbo the b16 in the future, which would be more expensive to do than the d16, but a hell of alot nicer. i just wish i could boost sooner . anyone else have opinions?

i think that if u turbo the D16 u will b fine for a while...but then after a year or two u will want more then realize the D16 has very little aftermarket, and be beating yourself over the head like 'why didnt i get the damn engine?!'. on the other side of it... say you get the B16. ur gunna notice the power difference, but it wont b as much as turboing ur D16, and again u will want more after a while. fortunately this time you will be very happy that you got the B16 because it has a (practically) infinate aftermarket (in comparison).

i guess what im sayin is...in the long run u'll b happier gettin the b16

I would have to suggest skipping the bolt ons and tossing in a gs-r instead of the b16. Youll get more power and way more potential then the b16 or the turbo single slammer

Mossy i would boost it............it would cost u say 2,000 to boost it........and u can some of the other money to give the motor some more strength...........say u swap a b16 and did I/H/E and some other crap........i bet the D16 boosted would be faster. If ur engine has 125 on it but u take care of it.......it should last........just do a leakdown and compression test on it and see how it is doing.............i vote for boost.

Im giong to guess about another $500. Not sure how accurate that is though, also I belive for a couple hundred you can add LSD.

a good turbo kit would come with new injectors........i would say go for a walbro fuel pump (255)......thatll help deliver some more fuel to ur car...........and a professional tuning job wouldnt hurt either
