Dude, it's just like Forty said. I'm not claiming an insane amount of gain here. I'm just saying it's true that your mpg improves as you mod on a performance intake and/or exhaust system by stating my own first-hand results in general. Personally, I like being able to say I get the same gas mileage as all the hybrid cars people nowadays are freaking out over, but you don't need to call someone out on being a moron when they are giving you actual test results. I'm being honest, man. And as far as the decisions of the car companies, I can't speak on their behalf, so don't ask me unless you want an opinionated response. Peace.
100*(36-30)/30=20%

I'm not just putting those numbers up to bull**** people. I don't care about the logic or story behind it all either. I have nothing to prove, especially since people in here get better mpg than I do anyway. I'm just saying, from my own experience, that's the change that happened on my car after I installed performance intake and a full performance exhaust system in regards to nearly straight-up highway mileage. Take it or leave it. It's as simple as that. I drive too much like an *** on local roads to actually guage my gas mileage locally. I'm sorry, did I say driving too much like an ***? I mean having too much fun

Just to throw in my $.02. Although there is a vast amount of us car crazed, gear heads about, the majority of the car owning populace would rather drive a nice fuel effiecient and QUIET car. plus if cars already came all decked out what would there be for us tuners to do?

Cars have to pass strict emission test and Honda is one of the manufacturers that has lowest emission car. Stock car exhaust reduces a lot of emission of the car and sometimes also power from the engine. Aftermarket parts improve the flow, gain those power back and result in a higher MPG. Just my 2 cents.

If car maker doesnt care about fuel efficiency, why do we have hybrids, electric and fuel cell car?

I was definitely thinking that but couldn't word it correctly without getting hassled by somebody. Right on.

IHE makers do not care about fuel efficiency. Let me try to explain why I think so. Why do you, or anybody else for this matter, buy IHE? I believe ONLY for the full throttle power gains, be it HP or torque. Why do I believe so? Because I have yet to see a partial throttle dyno chart or a dyno chart showing fuel consumption in any IHE ad or manual. Forget about charts, show me at least a single fuel efficiency number advertised in relation to IHE, I might change my mind then. One has to advertise something in order to be able to sell it, right? Obviously nobody is selling fuel efficiency with IHE, and nobody is buying it.

So, if IHE makers do not sell fuel efficiency, why would they put any money/effort into improving it? They don’t. Those who tried are out of business already or stopped trying. Businesses are run on a slim margin, and expenses that do not translate into revenues do kill businesses on the spot, especially small businesses. If IHE makers didn’t try to improve fuel efficiency, this improvement could happen only accidentally – means it would be rare and in between, if any, and you should not count on it.

just my $0.02 While IHE makers do not focus there R&D on fuel efficiency but rather how to get more power...in doing so the same thing that helps make more power is better air flow, and while they are designed to give more power they also make it more efficient which gives you better gas mileage. even though they are not making there products to get better gas mileage does not mean that they don't do it anyways. I myself have an AEM V2 and a skunk2 cat-back on my car and got about a 4-5 mpg increase.
