Default Help with turbo general info.

I am getting ready to buy a 94 civic soch vtec that has greddy t3. The engine is getting ready to pop. What can i do to ensure the turbo will work on my new engine. How "universal" are turbos? I am 100% new at imports and turbos. I will ask 100 stupid questions. lol

Well You need to research alot more first. You have the d16z6 I presume and do you mean it already has a t3 turbo on it? And what do you mean the engine is going to pop is it dying is the turbo bad etc I need more information. And different turbos are not universal some will have similiar or same flanges but you will have to adjust your tune for a different turbo/and setup. Also assuming it is already boosted exactly what is done to the car built internals? intercooler, engine management, injectors etc.

He said he didnt think the engine was going to last much longer. I want to put another engine in it (JDM perhaps) but i want the turbo to bolt up

If you change the engine it's not going to match up. You could still use the main parts such as the turbo and wastegate, intercooler ect., but all your exhaust and piping will have to be reworked to fit the engine you buy.

That is completely untrue. If he gets any SOHC D-series motor, every single part from the turbo will work on it, and he should not have to modify anything.

that is also wrong, some of the downpipes made for one sohc will not fit on another with out some serious persuasion. Theoretically i suppose it is supposed tow ork but it doesnt, so it might depend on the company

alright, but still that's like the only thing, and it may not even need to be changed out.
oh and you might need a new chipped ECU depending on what motor you buy.

The KEY WORD in my statement is CHANGE the engine. If he gets another d-series thats not CHANGING the engine. No s--- if you put another d in it would still fit. Give the guy some credit even a retard could figure that out.
