how to boost your d-series
Hey the link was a great break down on boostin a "D."
But I am curious to know how many of you guys have built your own turbos?
If it sounds that easy and cheap (assuming...)
Has anyone gone that route on DIY versus dropping $2-3G's on like GReddy and so on?
I think I want so save ALOT of pennies and go this route by buying parts separately....

sorry joepops not boosted yet, but i think its worth a try if you have any mechanical skills and someone with experience giving you pointers. do a search on here and see what you come up with. check out sohchonda.com too for more info.
hey md 420... sounds cool, how many psi you pushing? what kind of numbers are you getting on the dyno? track?

Peaking around 9psi but settling at 7psi,dont know my current numbers cause I have switched fuel management and have slightly different size piping as when I dyno'd it before. With the greddy blue box and 2 inch charge piping I was puttin 155 or so whp down with 145 tq to the wheels but I was running high 14's to low 15's then. Now I have emanage and 2.5 inch charge piping but have not dyno'd it,I am running quicker though at 14.4/14.3 at around 95 to 96mph.
My turbo is rather small though, being a T25-.48/.49AR it tends to die out a lil the from 7600rpm to 8500rpm so I am planning an upgrade to a T3 super 60,t28,or a smaller t3/t4

Yeah most of the info here and on SOHC has been extremely helpful. I have the tools for sure but not that much experience or friends who have boosted before so I guess im doing my homework to get a gist as to what I need can expect or just have fun with..
Yeah boi!!! Thats what Im talking bout. Is your turbo your 1st (haha). Im so looking into getting my D boosted and not dropping 2-3G's. Who and where did you get your engine tuned? Did you tune as soon as you had the turbo installed or did you wait until like you have like a catback for example...?
When I first installed the turbo I ran it on the greddy blue box and put down the power posted above so there was no need to try and tune a P.O.S. un programable sh*t box,now I have e-manage and have a decent street tune on it.I have yet to be back to the dyno but my a/f's are leveled out at 11.5 to 1 at W.O.T. It runs a tad rich under part acceleration but it is not of concern as of now.
Not my first I used to own a boosted 91 Probe GT<---(dont make to much fun of it cause stock for stock I could toast Stock SH ludes and ran a constant 14.8 to 15 flat with it).
As far as re-tuning after more bolt ons, there will be no need untill I ungrade turbo's.I allready have a 2.5 inch down pipe to a full custom 2.5 inch exhaust with no cat,1 resonator, and a magnaflow straight through muffler. Not loud at all under boost or n/a.
I am a avid spokesman against turbo kits,IMHO you can do better building it yourself for a couple reasons.
1.)You can hand pick different componets to fit your goals, engine, and ability(e.i. whether or not you can tune a full standalone or not)
2.)Pricing,when you buy a kit you pay for r/d and advertising along with the product.....that is why it is so expensive.I know r/d is a major part to a correctly designed setup but the way I look at it is with the internet at your fingertips and the growing popularity of boosting it is not hard to find anything out about it plus more times than not somebody has allready done it so all it takes is looking around and finding the info.
www.homemadeturbo.com is a great resource for info and parts right along with www.turbod16.com plus you have people like me that all but love to help other enthusiest get to their goals in the easiest way.
