Default hungry for boost

every time i accelerate in my car.... i can hear my car begging for boost. haha

i wanna install a turbo soon as it gets warm out.. ive read the DIY on how to install one like 4 times.. it seems like its not too difficult..

first of all.. can someone tell me what kind of engine i have so i can do some more research.
i got an96 excoupe non vtec.

as far as my turbo.. i am NOT looking to be the biggest baddestfastest mother f***er out there.. i just want to feel it when i accelerate. i want to be able to keep up with at least some stock cars. but as of right now.. theres only a few cars that i can beat... basically. i just want to have something respectable.

does anyone have any suggestions on what i should buy?
im lookin to buy the parts all individually instead of all in a kit (such as 'petes turbo grocery list' illustrates)

any help at all would be much appreciated being that im probably the biggest turbo noob you'll ever meet. ha

thanks a lot

your engine is a d16y8 non vtec. i would just follow petes list and go from there. hf manifold, t25 or a 14b turbo will be good for your car.

this link tells you everything you need to know about how a turbo works and all of the components.
glow shift makes good gauges for a great price. also get a chipped p28 as your emanage and have someone tune it with crome. just keep researching everywhere.

The d16y8 it's a vtec engine. All ex models have vtec.

About the turbo kit, I would rather get a brand name turbo.Try looking for an used greddy kit.

If you look, there does not appear to be a vtec silenoid on the head. If could be a possiblity thats not the original motor, or head, or somebody slapped a ex badge on the back.
