Default newb with an automatic

hey guys,
i just purchased a 2005 honda civic ex with 90,000 miles on it. it has a honda d17a2 vtec-e with an automatic transmission. a lot of people have said that i should start over and buy one with a manual transmission. i don't have the money or desire to do this. i like the auto, but i need to know if things like forced induction or nitrous oxide kits are usable with an automatic. i cant seem to find any resources that specifically say one way or the other. the car is stock at the moment but i wanted to consider the long term options before i start modding it. i dont have any intentions of considering a turbo or other high power adders as a first mod. i just wanna do all my homework first. thanks for the help guys.

The D17 really isn't a great engine as far as getting power out of it goes; it doesn't even respond well to forced induction. On top of that, the automatic transmission is designed to handle the stock power. They also have a bad habit of failing at stock power (as does any automatic transmission. They will all eventually fail). Basically, you're signing the death warrant on your transmission by adding a significant amount of power.

Personally, if I were you, I'd save the money for a K20A2 swap complete with the manual changeover.

thanks for the help guys. i will look into the specifics of one of those k-swaps i have heard so much about. i, tragically, do not know how to drive manual. but i suppose i will look into it in the future. is the d17 the worst of the Honda engines?
