Default Tune question about d16y7

I have the P2E ECU, which I believe can't be reprogrammed, because its OBD2b. What options do I have as far as tuning if/when I install a turbo? The sticky says 96+ ECU's can't be chipped. Am I boned?

You can convert to obd1 via a jumper harness and a obd1 ecu and have it chipped, you can run greddy e manage, you can run aem ems which is pricey. I'll help ya out man just hit me up on aim when I'm not so tired. Also best to not try to hit me up in the chatroom

Unless he has some connections with the smog guys or doesn't mind bribing them.

The only way to stay legal and have a turboon your civicis to buy the edelbrock kit, all the other methods are illegal.

But if you don't care whether your car is legal or not, your other alternates than converting to obd1 is to run a piggyback (like the greddy emanage or the AEM's) or the afc hack.

Hmm, ok. What if I were to buy a piggyback unit, and then when my smog check comes around, Remove the piggyback, and make the engine N/A for the day?

EDIT - Jesus tapdancing christ piggyback units are expensive.

I am pretty much only looking at the Greddy piggybacks, the AEM is way too much. Do will the regular emanage suffice? or is ultimate better for the tuner? Heres a link to the pdf that says what ultimate is compatible with. I think mine may work.

http://www.greddy.com/news/ultimateplugins.pdf

Or -
Get OBD1 jumper thing and an ECU
Intsall jumper and ECU
Tune
When smog time rolls around swap out the harness and ECU and put the stock OBD2b back in, and remove the charge piping to make it N/A.

That is true. I have never even been pulled over for speeding, for that matter. I can't see myself ever doing anything retarded enough to make a cop want to look under my hood.

Anyways, back to the question at hand. Can ECU's be changed in and out without erasing the code on them? (ie install and tune with OBD1 ECU, then put the OBD2 back in for smog.) Does the ECU hold its code without having power supplied to it? I would assume so, otherwise in the event your battery was unplugged for any amount of time you would have to have your car re-tuned.
