turbo automatic
I plan on turboing my Y7 w/ a T3 and Laskey Racing Pistons w/ rings, rods, valves, springs etc., ACL bearings, and Benson crank. My question is about my transmission and how well it will hold up with the turbo and mods. I would like to keep the auto (i can drive stick so dont flame me) but will it hold up? Will it be able to withstand the power with a tranny cooler, clutch kit, or is there anything else i could do? I know i could swap in a manual for about a grand but like i said i would like to keep the auto, thats just my preference. Is there anything i can do for the auto tranny?
well...it depends on how much power you want to make...i personally dont think it will hold up...at least not for long. Others say that you can rebuild them etc. but im not sure who you would have to talk to (i dont know any one around here that will "build" an import auto) and i dont know what all is involved....usually when i hear of a built auto trans, its a domestic with a stall, and a "shift kit" to make it shift firmer and faster. I would think the weakness would be in the autos clutches because the actual gears should hold up to a decent amount of power. So i guess if you could find a company that can build up and auto tranny, go for it. Personally, i hate autos, they take to long to figure out what gear they want in the corners....you have to use your brakes way more in the corners as opposed to engine braking and/or down shift. but thats just me...i also know that some times in continuous stop and go traffic, i would like to have an auto and hold hands with the girl in the passenger seat. (however, that little bit has not made me trade my mom for her auto...lol)
