Yea you can put it in the car... stick it on the backseat or something. But I can tell you don't know enough about turbocharging to bolt a turbocharger onto the engine instead so I suggust you don't do that and start doing some research first.
last post is right, but to answer the original question, vtec engines are usually higher compression, so turboing them is trickier, but its pretty well figured out by now, and if you research it and do it properly, its fine to turbo a Vtec engine.
Your friends are obviously just as misinformed as you. D series respond very well to boost, and it is a vtec engine if its an ex, assuming you are in the USA, if you are from Canada, then it is probably a d16y7, non vtec
