Default turbo newbie question

I just purchaced a nice clean unbutchered 99 civic si coupe that i love but would like to have some more streetable power to play with.It has the sohc 1.6 vtec engine . I have scanned e-bay and there seem to be some cheap kits on there as low as 400 and up. What am i missing here? when i go to a retail site for a kit they are at least 2500-3000. I would like to know what a stock engine is capable of handling and auto tranny.. I dont want to butcher the car so i would like a simple bolt on kit and would 200 hp be way too much to think of from a stock setup and a turbo added? Also i know most of the kits must be missing parts or be low quality parts as well...if someone would reccomend an affordable kit.... Thanks in advance

yeah sorry bud auto's are hard to turbo. Gonna want to swap the tranny to a manual. You could get a header, air intake, a catback exhaust, and be happy with that.

I would personally much rather have a turboed auto than a standard just the drivability of both. But if the stock auto isnt capable of big hp gains i guess ill have to settle for some smaller bolt on mods. I like the way a turboed auto shifts with virtually no loss in boost as it shifts. When i said the car was unbutchered I meant under the hood as it still has the stock airbox and exhaust etc. Yes it does have a nice big silly looking wing on it that is getting shortened a lot when time allows. Its a 99 si model with only 140,000 kms on it and i got it for a song......less than half redbook value

Ive never seen a SI with plastic side moldings and skirts.

AUTOs and turbos are fine together, the HP will be there but the track times will be a bit slower. Also, the AUTO tranny will most likely go out before the manual tranny will. 200hp isnt too much for the car, especially if it is a SI. Your tranny will be fine at that boost level. As for a $400 kit Id be skeptical. You get what you pay for... an average Turbo kit will be in the ballpark of $2,000-3,000. Also, the labor cost will be pretty pricey.

Ok, for all of us americans, he has a EX for all intents and purposes. Our Si is their SiR so dont think of it as an actual Si. Yes you can turbo it but keep it under 200whp. I would say roughly 5-6psi depending on turbo. Stay away from cheap ebay kits and piece together your own setup.

You want to have aturboed auto?
Man come on, seriously consider doing a manual swap.
Are you going to be doing the turbo work yourself or are taking it to some shop to do?
