It doesn't, well not directly anyway.

When a turbocharger spools up it creates a high pressure area in the intake, which means denser pressurized heated air. Obviously, more air in the cylinders coupled with more fuel will create a bigger more violent explosion which = more stress.

^Exactly. It puts more air in each cly, and more fuel, which means more combustion.

so it doesnt directly harm the engine but in the long run does decrease its reliablility??

If the tune is good it wont make too much of a difference. They do increase the heat thou, so yes it WILL strain the motor more than if it were stock, but if its done correctly its not that bad. Imaging you have a garden hose that can hold 20 gallons of water per minute........you wanna push 39 gallons per minute........so obviously it stressed the hose more, but if you "tune" it and or make it stronger, it wont matter too mcuh.........understand?

Every engine has it's breaking point. Obviously trying to push 500hp on an engine that can only hold 200hp is going to snap a rod. As long as you stay within the limits of the engine, or build the engine for more, with a good tune the engine should produce power and be completely reliable doing so.
