Rent a compression tester from Autozone, should be like 40 bucks but you get it all back when you return it.

1 Take out your spark plugs
2 pull the fuel pump fuse (fuse box inside car)
3 Screw the tester into the number one cylinder
4 Put the accelerator all the way to the floor, and crank the motor for a few seconds.
5 Record the PSI reading for that cylinder

Repeat steps 3-5 for each cylinder and compare your numbers. They should all be within 10% of each other.

As for a leakdown, you're probably better off to take it to a shop. But, run the compression test first, that can tell you a lot.

Tony, what if they are all bad, but all equally bad? Like they are all within 10% of each other, but still at a number you dont want. How do you know? What PSI should they all be at?

And when you say crank the motor, do you mean rev really high?

leakdown test isnt thathard either if you have experience with your motor. If both that and the cylinder compressionare good, boost away!

Its very unlikely that that would ever happen. There really is no SET number for what you should be getting, too many variables..

crank the motor means crank the motor, you can't rev it with the plugs out and the fuel pump fuse pulled

Cranking the motor is what you do every morning when you start your car silly.

And 10% is way too much. I would say no more than 5-7 psi from each other.
