These are nothing much to look at, just playing with aperture priority and depth of field. Practicing this so I can do them "AT WILL". This photography thing is fun...:D

nice job jake. are u using a point and shoot digi cam or somekinda camera with an adjustable lense?

jake11375 10-04-2006 03:24 PM

RE: unoffical photographers thread

Well, it's a Fujifilm S5100 10X zoom with full manual controls. You can use it as a point and shoot camera but it has a lot more in-depth features that I'm just now taking the time to learn. Just about every digitial camera has the ability to duplicate the effects I've done here (aperture, DOF) it's just that some have greater ranges and different strength/quality lenses.

Those are very cool pics jake. I had to do something like that for my photography class last year and i had no idea how to. I just spun around on one of those merry go rounds and took a picture of the middle of it so everything else was blurry.

oic...yeah i can do it with my digi cam but it takes a lil playin around with the "shoot button" to get it to focus on the right part and have the rest blurred. its a bit difficult cuz it sometimes just wont work and u gota move ur position to get the shot ur looking for..

LOL! Spin around to make it blurry... now that's being innovative! :D

Civicexracer, yeah you can do it the way you described which is to focus on one object, then position the photo to your liking. On my camera you can also choose "area" focus in AF mode where you can move the focus point with the directional button anywhere on the screen. Either way you get the same results. The greater your zoom, along with a high aperture setting (which is actually a lower number)... the more extreme the aperture effect can be. Pretty cool learning all this... :)

i missed this last time it was up there, but jake thats really sick..im trying to learn how to do the same with my camara but its so hard, i had a old one i can do it with but its not digital so that sucks..i want to get one of thos in the future with the self adjusting lens

i went to the international air port last night and took a few pics, there is not really anything special about them, and 2 are kinda blurry but i was shooting through glass..and i cant figer out how to take a shot at night (without flash) and make it come out not blurry, thats another thing i got to learn..but here are the pics, this post needs to be pinned

for shooting in low light pics...either have a tripod or have super super steady hands lol. with just a normal point and shoot its very hard to get away with a good low light pic without a tripod. i cant wait for the next couple weekends. sunday im goin to a mega meet with a buncha freinds so im gena get alota car pics there. and the following weekend im prolly gena go up to the mountainous region and get pics of the trees and all. and the next day im goin to an autox so ill be able to practice some action shots:D

RE: unoffical photographers thread

Thanks Mill$. I like those airport pics, they came out nice. I like the 1rst one best.

On taking night pics and them coming out blurry. The key to solving that is a tripod or something to keep the camera motionless. To take a picture in the dark, the shutter must stay open for a longer period of time to take in more light. Example would be a shutter speed of 1/1000 of a second would take in more light than a speed of 1/2000 of a second. To take a pic at night, the shutter may need to stay open for .5 seconds or maybe even 1-2 seconds depending on the available light. During the time the shutter is open, any movement will be recorded as well, which is how you get pics of car lights on the highway that seem to stream along the photo or pics to seem out of focus. A fast shutter speed (1/2000) is good for sport shots where you don't want blurred movement recorded such as running or wheels turning ect but you have to have sufficient light for a quick shutter speed. Night pics demand complete stillness, and you cannot hold a camera steady enough for it. (I've tried without success :D) I have an MX100 tripod I got from Best Buy for like $30. Great investment for quality pics.

Also: White balance settings determine whether a night pic has a yellowish or blueish tint to them. The correct setting will result in accurate color recording. Most cameras adjust automatically but not always to the best setting.

EDIT: I see Civicexracer beat me to it. :D

Thanks. And believe me, with a halfway decent camera, some reading, practice and patience, you can get good results too. I've come a long way from my first pics and I've seen photos taken with my exact same camera by experienced users that make mine look like crayon drawings. :D So I've got a long way to go. I will be investing in a telephoto lens, some filters and wide angle lens next. Keep the pics coming everyone...:)
