Default Check out my new aggressive stance!

... I are a sad panda. I was coming home from class, and there's a hill I have to go up beside Wyotech's admin building; well, traffic was backed up today, meaning a lot of stopping and creeping forward. Well, thanks to my great luck, we just got a few inches of THE slipperiest snow I have EVER seen in my life. I was trying to creep forward (in second, feathering the s**t out of the clutch), and all that was happening was my back end was walking its way towards the ditch on the side of the road. So, I decide it's probably best to just give up and make a 3pt turn. I look up past the cars in front of me and don't see any cars, so I figure it's safe to try... as soon as I was sideways on the road, I looked to my left, and there's a Camaro sliding towards me with its wheels at full lock to the right. From the looks of it, my front passenger-side wheel took the full force of the impact; the strut's trashed, I'm thinking the ball joint's probably pretty screwed too. hopefully that (and the fender) will be the extent of the damage. Anyway, here's the gore shots:

I'm thinking of looking around for a cheap EG hatch/coupe to drive for the rest of the winter now... that's assuming I can find one in okay shape that still runs for under $1,000 to $1,500. If I can find one, the mustang's going to sit until spring/summer when I have money to fix it.

Oh, and we didn't bother with insurance; the Camaro had next to no damage (he had a plastic front lip that was broken, and that was it), and I have liability. We were both technically at fault, so it'll just be cheaper to repair it out of pocket in the long run (besides, with liability I believe they'll total it anyway).

looks to me like just the strut bent...
fender doesnt look damaged from the pics.

id say just replace the strut with a junk yard strut and put it back on the road...
and PUT FULL COVERAGE on the car for the winter!
thats all i would do at least... well and a alignment.

You should be able to get a part from a wreckers easy and put her back on the road in no time.

Technically the road was clear when you started to preform the 3 point turn So there for he would be in fault for not slowing down and or stopping, not you.

trust me, the fender's dented; you can't tell that much with the angular body lines, but it's definitely pushed in a little. And the strut is obviously bent, I'm hoping that's the biggest thing.

And kevin, are you talking about the bend at the end of the LCA? I believe it's supposed to be there... but we'll find out when I pull the suspension apart.

*edit: And I'm sure I'd have been at at least partial fault... I was on the opposite side of the road, after all.

yea if you were making a 3 point turn in the middle of a road then actually your probably completely at fault.

I know you your strut is bent but with the looks of that well one of your two control arms is gonna be bent as well is why I said your control arm is muffed up

true... I guess I'll find out when I tear into the suspension.

And not that it matters, but since he failed to come to a stop, wouldn't he be at partial fault? I always thought if you failed to stop in time you were at at least partial fault for not stopping. Like I said, we didn't bother with insurance, I'm just curious at this point.

I'll explain it better when I'm at home since I'm at work, but in reality He's at fault. Give me a half hr and I'll explain my case.

*Edit* I got Impatient

So say you're in the middle of an Intersection YOUR lights red. And the car who was sitting waiting for the green light finally goes while you're in the middle of the intersection and hits you. That person who went while you're in the middle of the intersection even though the light was red for you and green for him is STILL at fault since YOU have the right of way. Even though the lights green for them they're not allowed to go till everything is clear.

As for your case HE wasn't there when you did your driving maneuver which means when he came around the corner and or hill HE would have to yield to you. Since he should have given himself enough space to slow down and should have know the road was in such rough condition that he would be at fault since HE slammed into you.

It'd be the same as if you're backing out of your driveway when the road was clear.. while you're in the middle of the road someone hits you. Because your in the middle of the road and you're hit, the person driving and hitting you while youre backing out is at fault. Beceause the driver who hit you should have given himself enough space to brake and or be paying attention to the situation.

I understand what your saying about the intersection being clear before proceeding however it majority of states it is illegal to perform a u-turn or 3 pt turn in the middle of a road.
