so, i know very little about this type of racing, other than what i see on TV...you mentioned jumping, how far off the ground do you get? im guessing that this is a staggered start race? how rough is it on the car?

 

well, this is a RallyCross, which is different from a time/speed/distance rally, or a stage rally, like WRC, like you see on TV. This is a closed course, kind of like an autocross, but with not as many cones. It's on 33 acres on the side of a hill in someone's backyard. One car starts every minute and it takes about a minute and a half to run the whole course, hitting 45mph and higher in places. Depending on number of entries and conditions, we get 8-12 runs or more. Last time we did double runs at the end of the day, where we ran the whole loop twice. People bring all kinds of cars, lots of Subarus, brand new Evos, beat up old Civics, Neons with rally tires, etc. etc.

as far as damage to the car... the course isn't that rough; when it's dry it's not much worse than pavement. all the big rocks are gone. if we run in the mud, like we did yesterday, we have to fill the ruts before we leave, otherwise they dry and turn rock hard, and it sucks the next time. I've got a lot of crap hanging off the bottom of the car now, I'm sure I scratched the paint, it will never be clean again on the inside OR the outside. Oh and my windshield cracked but it already had a rock chip in it, and I have glass coverage so I don't particularly care. [&:]
