Default project '77 BMW R100 RS

sooo yeah a few days ago, just kinda hit me, i want to restore my step dads 1977 BMW R100 RS. my step dad's been talking about restoring it for so long but has never followed thru, i figure if i help restore and whatnot, he'll let me ride it and possibly later on keep it. its been sitting in the same spot in my garage for years on top of years. its not a very sporty bike, but i think it looks great and i've never seen one on the road before. not very fast but i dont care, it'd just be a fun weekend cruiser. finding good parts for this might be difficult and take a while but thats alright, this would be a long term project, esp since i'd have to get my license before i can even enjoy it lol.

anyways heres some pics of it at its current state, still sitting in the same spot its been in forever lol.

69,xxx miles on the clock. to get it running, i think all it really needs is new gas tank, battery, and maybe a couple other minor things. appearence wise, it needs a good amount of work. has quite a bit of rust and i'd def. have it re-painted(prolly the same original color). i'd love to keep this as original as possible seeing that this is a classic bike.

heres what it'll hopefully look like when finished

i dont much, more like basically nothing, about bikes. any help on good forums or just any general info for parts and whatnot would be greatly appreciated. i'm def. gena need alot of help lol.

That bike looks big. Your gonna have a lot of fun finding everything, but in the end it will be worth it.

It will be a fun project to do. Hell I would do it if I had a bike like that laying around.

i just cant wait to ride it, tho it'll be a while before that happens lol. alot of ppl think it looks small in the pics, but its actually just a bit larger than a common sport bike and slightly smaller than a cruiser. if i have time tonight, i might pull it out from the corner of my garage and clean like the 15 or so years worth of dust/dirt/grime off and try to figure out what exactly needs to be replaced. finding parts is gena take a while and prolly be difficult, but thats half the fun in a project like this. the other part wont be fun, cost, lol. bmw parts as im sure most know are expensive, for something like this, it'll prolly be even more. but ill prolly be splitting the costs with my step dad, if anything he might take a lil more since it is his bike and all. im excited, something completely new for me to learn and rip apart
