What causes this?
I don't know what it's called, but I think it happens when the combustion doesn't take place completely in the combustion chamber, like it's supposed to. Think about it, if the spark takes place at bdc of the power stroke, the fire will be pushed out on the exhaust stroke. I'm just theorizing though. Probably wrong...
Yeah thats what i meant. But i use the on top car view so i only notice it in the replays. But does anyone know what causes it. Cause this doesnt happen on your everyday grocery getter. And i wouldnt think it would be good for the car
It happens when you're running a little too rich at high rpms. The gas takes more time to completely burn, thus burning even after exiting the cylinders.
The way I see it, it cannot be good for the car since you're not harvesting all the available power.

I thought that it happened when the unburned gas vapor is pushed into the exhaust pipes and it gets ignited when it comes into contact with the air at the tip. Thus the flames. I could be wrong though.
