ya ur getting major ripped. buy rebuilt parts from like Advanced Auto or Pep Boys and give them to ur mechanic. it'll save u half the price in parts and labor really shouldnt be over $1k for that kinda work unless the tech is flat out retarded and takes him days to do this...

Having requested a listing the price is a bit lower but still seems like a lot:

Parts / Labor
4 RUBBER BRAKE HOSES
$ 48.13 / 0
$ 48.13 / 0
$ 42.33 / 0
$ 42.33 / 0

CALIPERS
$157.48 / $142.50
$157.48 / $142.50
$101.21 / $142.50
$101.21 / $142.50

MASTER CYLINDER
$127.75 / $142.50

ABS MODULATOR
$1045.35 / $142.50

MISC FLUID AND CLIPS
$ 20.00 / 0

2 BRAKE FLUID FLUSHES
$237.90 / 0

DIAGNOSTIC
$190.00 / 0

$3,474.28 PLUS TAX

And my normal mechanic says he would not normally do anything with brake fluid at my low mileage ~20,000.

Latest in the saga. I told dealer I want to take the car back to my local guy. They say it's no longer drivable after replacing the calipers as the brakes are now fully locked. They quoted $291 before the huge quote and now say I own $413 due to an extra hour of diagnostics. Just to turn my car from drivable to non-drivable. Route 23 Honda dealer in NJ for the record.

Who the heck was messing with brake fluid? You? Seriously, go to the BBB and complain A LOT if it wasn't you that messed up your car.

Can anyone think of a scenario that the brakes would be fully locked after replacing the calipers? Or is the dealer saying I need a flatbed to disuade me from cancelling the expensive repair?

Well, just got back from the dealer. They lied - surprise surprise - the brakes were not locked - so I did not need a flatbed. The only conclusion I can think of is that they said I needed a flatbed to convince me to follow thru with the expensive repair. Unbelievable. Buyer be ware of the RT 23 Honda dealer in NJ.
