I have an 00 honda civic dx and I wanted to lower my ride. friend of mine said to get adjustable coilovers. My question is do need to change the shock on my ride or can I still keep the stock ones on and put the adjustable coilovers on. Im not going performance wise just want a new look to my ride. So any tips or suggestion will be very helpfull

How low do you want to go? and do you want a very soft ride, an intermediate, or fairly harsh?

 

as far as i know, there's no good coilover kit that should be used with stock shocks. most of the spring rates are much to high for oem shocks. not to mention you might end up lowering it quite a bit so it'll just put more stress on them causing them to blow. either upgrade the shocks to at least Tokico HP's and get some coilover with low spring rates or just get springs like the Tein S-Techs and use the OEM shocks and make them last as long as possible.

 

thanks for the advice another question i want to lower it about inch and a half what would recomend. im kinda on a budget so where can i find a cheap set op shock/struts and springs?

I say the eibach pro lowering kit (~1.5 in) because your friend doesn't realize what coilovers are for and what they involve (i.e. setting, adjusting, preloading, dampening, and constantly aligning the suspension). Plus, it sounds like you only want to ride at one ride height that's not that aggressive. The oem dampers are adequate for the pro kit if you drive relatively smoothly. An aftermarket camber kit isn't completely necessary and is up to the user whether you want to spend the money.

 

i recommend tein s-tech lowering spring. thats what i have and its not too low and not too high. the drop is 1.9 in the front and 1.7 in the back. if you daily driving the car go with a good spring/stut combo.
