Default Civic 2006 Brake Pedal all the way down to stop

Hello,

I was wondering what are the possible causes that when I press the brake pedal I need to really push it all they way down to stop the car. I took it to the shop but I do still fill the same.

Thoughts?

Thanks for your help,
G

You said you took it to a shop... what exactly did they do?

Sounds to me like it'd either be a mass amount of air in your lines somewhere or a bad master cylinder.

Need to know what the shop did though...

Hi, thanks for your reply. They did the following:
Rear Drum Brake Service.
Brake Fluid Flush.

My money would be air in the brake lines. Try having the brakes bled at a reputable shop (or do it yourself) and that should fix the problem.

*edit: just realized the problem was present before the car was taken to a shop... could definitely be a master cylinder issue as well. I'd start by bleeding the brakes, though, as it's borderline free to do yourself (free if you already have brake fluid laying around, a few bucks for brake fluid if you don't).

Why would you need a rear drum brake service done on a 2006 Civic? Unless you already have well over 100k miles, nothing should really need to be done except cleaning and adjustment. Do you know what they did back there?

If they did flush/bleed the brake system, that leaves the master cylinder. When you are at a complete stop for a minute, like at a stop light, when you hold the brake pedal, does the pedal slowly go down to the floor?
