I think they are telling you to cut the dust cover. Reason being, when you lower it the dust cover will bottom out and break. Then it will become useless.

I know it's bad practice but I took off the dust covers and left them off. I was too lazy to cut the covers.

the black sleeve part is the dust boot, you cut that down to an inch, like in the drawing

the orange hard rubber thing is the bump stop, cut that in half. Since I don't know if you can cut the black bump stops that came with your new shocks, I would toss those, and use the other halves from the rear shocks

yea just the dust boots and the bumpstops. the dust boot should be plastic for a few inches and then have metal on the inside. i trimmed mine all the way to the metal. andyou might have to drill out the hole in the top of the dust boot just depending on the size of your new shock's shaft.

nope i cut them to specs and it all seems to be fine. the bump stops i didnt cut because according to the drawing they need to be cut to about an inch which is what they are now so i left them alone. they are all on minus the one strut i cant get out because of the old snapped bolt im trying to hammer out now. hopefully i can finish it off tonight though.
