coilover problems

got workin on my 98 today to do the coilovers and immediately ran into problems. i started on the rear and 2nd bolt in broke it. 6 hours it has taken me to drill it out and reinstall it. it was the middle bolt that is on the lower part of the strut. here i sit bummed and frustrated. what i bought was an ebay special coilover kit figuring id put up with the ride while i scanned for a full skunk2 package. so- if that one bolt was that difficult i can only imagine that the rest of them will be equally horrid. i did use an impact gun and had plenty of good tools, so it wasnt just user error that snapped it. anybody have the same problem? i need some encouragement....

Trust me, you're not alone. The rear LCA bolts are known for seizing in the metal sleeve inside the bushing. About the only thing you can do (well, besides praying they aren't seized lol) is order new bolts and bushings.

i leave them bolts alon i just do the other ones. theres more than 1 way to drop the lca to put coilovers on.

The LCA mount bolts are just as notorious for seizing as the strut-mount bolt is. Actually, when I did my GC's on my old ej1, I had no problems with either strut mount bolt. But the inner LCA mount bolts were both seized to hell. It's pretty much a luck-of-the-draw thing.

i unbolt the inner and outer. to drop the control arm with the strut.

right on. i have known that you could unbolt the outer two and still drop out the whole assembly, but wanted to get all new bolts in their so itd be way easier to work on. i actually got ahold of some lower control arms off a 5th gen but Lord willing will bolt up. i did take my car down to a local shop to see what theyd charge to just put all new bolts and bushings in the front and rear completely which im still waiting on them. haha ledt them do the grunt work. thanks for the encouragement btw completely. i hate it when this sort of thing happens.

unless those LCA bolts are seized also.LOL

but ebay coilovers are not a good TEMP. you should have just saved your money and put that towards the GOOD coilover setup!

and be sure to put ANTISEIZE all over the bolt threads and the shaft also! they seize on the bushing and bolt shaft most of the time.
ive been thru hell before with these rear suspension bolts! on my 99 civic i only had 3 bushings seized. the outter LCA bolt that i was able to work around, and the second was on the TOE adjuster bolt/bushing seized, and third was on the upper spindle camber arm.
but on my old 94civic it was HELL!!! i had 3 or the 4 toe adjustment arms seized, and 2 bushings on the struts they are hell cutting out!
