I'm looking to buy 17 inch rims and tires to match for my 2003 Civic EX Coupe and I was wondering what the consequences are for doing this. I've heard that since I want a bigger wheel, my already slow car will be even slower and that I'll have to adjust my speedometer.

Are there any others?

 

Depending on the weight of the wheel the rotational mass of the wheel will require more distance to stop the car. and to accelerate. most people who go for looks dont really care, but if you want a look/performance then i would stick with the OEM 15" size(unless your car has 14" on it)i am not saying not to get after market wheels, go right ahead. 17" will fit fine but the wheel will most likely be heavier then the OEM one. that is the main thing to consider.

 

that isn't true, you just need to get properly sized tires and your speedometer/odometer will be fine. But depending on the wheel weight it may affect acceleration and braking somewhat.

 

bigger rim = smaller tire = rougher ride

Speedo wont really be off, dont worry about it. And if it is, it'd be like 1 MPH or less (or so i've heard)

Lighter rims = better performance (brake/handling)

And it looks damn good

 

i dont notice a different in speed with my slow car and 17" rims, i noticed a difference in braking the first day out with them tho

 

it can be more or les than that if you have the wrong size tires

 

here's a consequence: your wallet's going to hurt, as well as your spine and dental work. lol.

 

If I got 15X7 rims w/ 205/50/15 tires and 40 offset would they rub. The stock wheel size on my 99 civic ex is 185/65/14 w/ 14X5 wheels and 45 offset. The seller said that one of the tires was rubbed when he had it on, so I am skeptical if they will fit w/o rubbing. Thanks.

No, the only thing that I have done to my car suspension wise is the ebay strut bar kit. Would I have to buy spacers to accommodate the extra 2 inches?
