Default do i need new brakes

hey im hearing a tiny squeeking noise whenever i let go of my brake pedal. If I let go slowly I don't hear anything. I also dont hear anything when I'm driving or actually pressing down on the brake pedal. Car is at 60100 miles with what i assume is original OEM pads. I had my mechanic recently check and they said pads are still good. They only checked on the outside though.

if i do replace the brakes/rotors do i have to get an alignment again?

are slotted/drilled rotors any good?

Can anyone vouch for ceramic brakes?

I can't really give you solid advice considering I can't see them and I don't know what your mechanic looked at. What you're hearing is probably the warning tabs wearing into your rotors (a bad thing), meaning you need new pads and rotors resurfaced depending on the thickness of the rotor and their condition. But if you do end up needing new brakes, I would keep it with OEM everything.

I would not get drilled or slotted rotors. Get either OEM blank rotors if they need replacing, or get Brembo blank rotors.

I recommend oem honda brake pads or if you want higher performance, get a set of high performance hawk or aem pads.

If you do have to get a brake job, you will not need an alignment since you are not changing any of your suspensions geometry, you're only changing the rotating mass.

okay thanks a lot,
Money is a little tight for me right now. Should I only worry when they get louder?

Is it normal to not hear the squeeking noise when driving or braking, but only hearing it when letting go of the brakes?

I was looking at Akebono ceramic pads and OEM honda rotors.

Like I said, it could be the warning tabs, I can't be positive. It is normal for the noise to only appear when letting go. If it was making a noise all the time, then debris could be lodged somewhere. Depending on your driving style, the time you have left on them is disputable. There's reason they call it warning tabs though, lol.

could it also be the rear drums?

I'm kinda pissedthat my mechanic wont open my brakes up to check, all he does is look from the outside and he says my brakes arent worn. He'll need some moola that i dont have just to open it up.
is checking the outside a reliable way? I think he said he was checking for the metallic tab or whatever.

Oh, I thought you said you had disks all around for some reason. It can be the rear, the shoe could be dragging or something of the sort as you let off due to the piston or spring assembly. To even remotely check the condition, you need to open them up as you mentioned. If they haven't been replaced before with 60k miles, then I would say it's time for a brake job. You'll have increased braking bite as well as a stronger parking brake depending on the e brake adjustment. You can do this yourself in a driveway or garage. Just read up on it online for tips and hints, and buy a Haynes manual or equivilent to help you through the checking and replacing process.

thanks, but im just gonna take it to my trusty shop to do it. I actually trust them - especially since they said I didn't need a brake job and were trying to save me a few bucks. My rear drums have been opened up before and they were cleaned -sprayed and bled? but I dont think they were replaced.

can you show me exactly what i might need for the rear.
I know the front I'll just get ceramic pads and oem rotors

could it also be rust in the front??
I didnt drive my car for a whole day yesterday and i heard noise today.
I'm going to be going through some periods where I might not drive it for 2-3 days straight per week.

The rears normally last alot longer than the fronts, so if you still have plenty of pad left in the front, the rears are probably fine. If you put less than say, 7000 miles per year of city driving on your car, slotted rotors are nice because they always keep the pads fresh and parallel. Ceramic pads are harder than OEM pads and will wear out your rotors faster.
The noise you hear may not mean that the wear indicator is being contacted by the rotor, but the only way to tell for sure is to pull the front wheels off and check closely. I have a feeling it's time to replace the front pads.

could the worn pads make noise when i have a passenger? I get a metal squeeking noise whenever i have a passenger but the noise goes away when i have no one.
i was driving in the rain and all the noises were gone. and today releasing the brake pedal made that squeeking noise again. Is the squeeking noise directly related to the rear drums?

That's really hard to say without checking out the car, but let me ask you this: Does the noise ALWAYS go away when you apply the brakes? If so, then it probably has something to do with the brake system.
